Jun 11, 2014

This month, we take you to Kenya’s greenest spots – its excellent golf courses! For the holiday-goers that never want to leave the links, we have the perfect golfing safari for you.

Day 1 – Hemingways Nairobi Hotel – The debut of this 45-room boutique hotel elevated the standard of luxury service for travellers in the region. Beautiful and flooded with natural light, this plantation-style property is airy and spacious. Its 80 square metre bedrooms each have a private balcony overlooking the iconic silhouette of the Ngong Hills.

Day 2/3 – Hemingways Nairobi Hotel –  Enjoy the seamless service at Hemingways Nairobi. Your dedicated butler will know that your preferences, and he’ll take care of your every need. Over the next two days, you will enjoy a round of golf at Karen Country and Golf Club, as well as a round of golf at Windsor Golf and Country Club.

Karen Country Club has unique features that distinguish it from other golfing clubs in Kenya:- flowering shrubs, lakes and wetlands, outstanding indigenous trees and many fine sporting amenities. Situated at an altitude of about 6,000 feet in the green residential district of Karen, Karen Country Club offers the visitor one of the finest golf courses in the country, as well as a host of other attractions. Founded in 1937, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in Kenya. A large part of the 18-hole course was built on the former coffee estate developed by the Danish pioneer, Karen Blixen, whose life and times were depicted in the lyrical film `Out of Africa`. Indeed, the shade trees from her coffee plantation still dominate parts of the golf course, eighty years after they were planted. The course is superbly maintained par 72 for men and 73 for ladies, and a challenging 6934 yards in length from the Men`s Championship tees.

Windsor Golf & Country Club  is one of the best golf courses in Kenya and is said to be the best in Africa for a host of golfing events. The championship design and length (7,277 yds) of the course is the centre of attention and deservedly so. It threads its way through coffee farms and indigenous forests with high and low terrain, giving it character and design quality. The course boasts lush, springy fairways, fast, true greens and a sprinkling of attractive water hazards with 73 well located sand bunkers and unforgiving roughs that make the course a truly challenging experience. Situated at an altitude of more than a mile above sea level (6000ft), the ball will travel 10 yards further than at sea level.

Day 4 – Mount Kenya Safari Club – Enjoy a scenic drive to the Mount Kenya Safari Club. The Mount Kenya Safari Club offers luxury accommodation in Nanyuki, Kenya. A magnificent view to behold, the prestigious main structure reflects the 1950’s colonial architectural design with a luxury country club feel, complemented with independent quaint cottages, including William Holden’s original cottage. Luxuriate in an afternoon at leisure with an optional visit to the animal orphanage.

The animal orphanage managed by the neighboring ranch and the William Holden Foundation is operated as a non-profit organization focusing on the re-introduction of the endangered Mount Kenya antelope – the bongo.

Day 5 – Mount Kenya Safari Club – Enjoy a full day game drive at Ol Pejeta Sanctuary.

Ol Pejeta particularly works to conserve the highly endangered black rhino and is now the Largest Black Rhino Sanctuary in East Africa. Moreover, the Conservancy is home to southern white rhinos and the critically endangered northern white rhinos.

As an integral part of the Laikipia/Samburu ecosystem, Ol Pejeta is also home to the “Big Five” and carries one of the highest wildlife densities in Kenya. In an attempt to ensure some connectivity with the greater Liakipia landscape, there are corridors along the Conservancy’s northern boundary ensuring free movement of all animals, especially the large herbivores such as elephants. Predators are also closely monitored as they play a crucial role in the ecosystem of controlling prey densities. Dinner and overnight at Mount Kenya Safari Club.

Day 6 – Mount Kenya Safari Club – Enjoy some leisure time as well as a round of Golf at Mount Kenya Safari Club.

The resort has a scenic 9-hole manicured golf course. It is interspersed with ponds, sand banks and is the only course bisected by the Equator in Africa– allowing one to leisurely cross from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere.

Day 7 – Mara Explorer Camp –  Today you will fly to the Masai Mara and arrive at Mara Explorer Camp in time for lunch.  Afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight at Mara Explorer.

This luxurious tented camp lies at the confluence of the Masai Mara’s four main game-viewing areas, and enjoys prime views of the spectacular wildebeest migration between July and September. During the remainder of the year, herds of watering elephant, giraffe and other animals can often be seen from your private veranda. Mara Explorer has received the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence award.

Day 8/9 – Mara Explorer Camp – enjoy game activities with gold-certified guides in one of the most amazing game-rich areas in East Africa. Home to the wildebeest migration, this area has excellent game viewing year-round.  Also on offer are cultural excursions, nature walks and balloon safaris (optional, extra cost). This area is also known for excellent birding.

Day 10 – Today you will depart the Masai Mara and fly to Diani and transfer to Swahili Beach.

Swahili Beach Hotel, an innovative five star resort development, is centrally located on the famous Diani Beach of Kenya’s south coast. This unique hotel offers a harmonious blend of the architectural influences from the East African coast, Arabia, India, and Zanzibar that have fused over millennia to create the vibrant Swahili culture.

Day 11/12/13 – Swahili Beach – Enjoy day 11 and 13 at leisure at the beautiful Swahili Beach Hotel, and enjoy a round of golf at Leisure Golf Course on day 12.

The course was designed by Thommy Fjastad and is characterized by rolling fairways, challenging bunkers, appealing water features and impeccable greens. Inspired by stunning terrain, the 18 hole golf course offers panoramas of tropical impressions, it will inspire you with their beauty, and challenge you to improve your level of play.
